Project Description

Project Description:

The initial tower, also called the Siegfried Tower, was built around 1272, and the thickness of its walls reaches 1 meter. While at first it was only 14-m high, it was subsequently raised to 20 m. There is a vaulted cellar on the ground floor, and the same vaulted style is also found on the first floor. The other levels have regular ceilings. During the restoration works carried out between 1962-1964, the bipartite window framing, with three lobes on either side, was discovered, which indicates an early Gothic phase, perhaps from the second half of the 13th century.

In 1430, the citadel was sold by Johann Geréb de Vingrad to the local Saxon community. In the second half of the 16th century, as firearms become evermore popular, the fortification is improved: the second chamber is built, a new level is added, and the barbican and horseshoe-shaped bastion tower are erected.
