Project Description
This project explores the timeless aesthetic of the Tudor Revival style, translated into a presentation model that emphasizes the dialogue between geometric rigor and handcrafted detail. The concept seeks to integrate historical elements, such as steep gables and half-timbering, into a modern residential context, defined by a complex arrangement of volumes around a private inner courtyard.
On a technical level, the model (1:50 scale) focuses on the faithful rendering of textures: utilizing various densities of cardboard for the primary structure, wood veneer for the timber framing, and composite materials for the mature landscaping.
The result is a study in scale and materiality, where the prominent brick chimney and the interplay of light and shadow across the facade become focal points.
The model successfully captures more than just the building’s volumetry; it evokes the warm, enduring atmosphere of an authentic “home.”
Tudor Revival is a popular early 20th-century architectural style, especially in the 1920s and 30s, that romanticizes medieval English cottages and manor houses with distinctive features like steeply pitched, multi-gabled roofs, decorative half-timbering, massive chimneys, and a mix of materials like stucco, brick, and stone, creating an “Old World” or fairytale look that was a reaction against Victorian excess.
