This project is the result of a research effort in the development of mega-cities, with focus on Rio de Janeiro. The study framework takes into account two generally known facts: the city of celebration and the city of contrast.  The project focuses on how the glamourous part of Rio becomes a tool of articulating realities of the split city. Its objective is creating such a connection.

This proposal does not represent an attempt of  ”solving” the problems in a mega-city. For a change, while taking into account specific facts like segregation, lack of urban coherence, etc., this project becomes a model on how to bring urban life to some parts of the city, as an intervention on the verges of tactical urbanism. The part of strategic urban planning is putting back the historical tram in the heart of the city, as well as the fabrication of benchmarks as guides towards the hidden, yet poetical part of Rio.  The paths that branch out from this spine are set following the lines of tactical urbanism, where the community is the lead actor.
